Feedback Essays is a project of sound discussions on use of feedback as a sound source for creating new music.
The feedback had its place in music history as an example of "noise" or inarticulate sound source, "technical error", but it has been used skillfully as an equitable and legitimate material for compositions as well. From Stockhausen, to Eliane Radigue, from Jimi Hendrix to Toshimaru Nakamura, feedback has its place as unique sound source.
Cubrilovic has been working with this material and ideas for long time, solo, like most previous creators, but only when united with other performers, feedback became more then just a sound, it become a communication language. He realized that participants future actions depended on other participants “feedback”, or commentary, where by creating real open discussion and the word itself got multi-layered meaning. Suddenly, “feedback” was more then a sound, but a response to our need as humans to have rapport with each other, to respond to each others existence. Of course, it can always be seen as a excuse for grown-ups to behave like a kids and make bunch of noise. But then again, Nietzsche said that “Man's maturity: to have regained the seriousness that he had as a child at play.” Each of participants has a unique approach to the problem, a look at the situation, as well as a personal audio commentary.

The project was created by cooperation of cultural organizations Improstor, ImprovE and

BalkanBoy Records under the overall auspices of the Platform for art and culture Labud KUP.

ISPOD BINE // UNDER THE STAGE is a festival of experimental and improv music, and sound art, first of this kind in Split, Croatia. Festival opens up for live acts of Croatian and international artists, with workshops and master classes where young musicians can learn and where new artistic collaborations are born. With the part of site-specific sound art in public places, it covers music&sound in its wide range.
